Our school PTA, is known as the BSFA - Bleasby School Friends Association (reg. charity no. 1132098).

We support Bleasby C of E Primary School, through fundraising and fun social events. We aim to bring staff, parents, children and supporters together in the common goal of enriching the learning experience  of our children at Bleasby. You can assist us in many different ways - by SUPPORTING OUR EVENTS, VOLUNTEERING your time, services or skills, DONATING ITEMS for raffles, events or prizes, or by DONATING MONEY.

Why do we have a Friends Association?

 

Our Friends Association is such an important part of the school community. It is more than simply fundraising.  BSFA exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.

Since 2008, BSFA has raised over £50,000, much of which has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children’s educational experience and the school’s facilities. 

 

All parents and members of the school community are encouraged to get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available. All families, including grandparents and other supporters of the school, are automatically members of BSFA when your child joins our school.

 

Most, but not all of our events are run as fundraisers. The Teddy Bears Picnic for Infants, for example, is run at the start of the new school year to give some of the newer parents the opportunity to meet each other, as well as some of the BSFA committee and After School Club staff.   

 

We support the teaching staff by providing manpower to run the Scholastic Book Fairs, children’s Christmas Parties etc. as needed. We also go into school and work with children and teachers to run some of our activities. 

 

Charitable status

 

Charity law requires voluntary organisations, such as ours, with an annual income in excess of £5,000, to register with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. As a charity, we must abide by Charity Commission rules and regulations and we are bound by our written constitution.  If you would like to see a copy of the constitution, please contact one of the Committee members.

 

Being a registered charity enables BSFA to:-

 

  • receive charitable donations from local and national companies
  • apply to grant-making charitable trusts; most charitable trusts will give grants only to groups formally recognised as charities
  • receive donations made through payroll giving and company matched giving schemes
  • apply for Gift Aid

 

Making sure we do things properly

 

BSFA is one of over 13,000 members of PTA-UK.  We pay an annual membership fee to PTA-UK which gives us lots of member benefits including comprehensive insurance cover for all BSFA run events, support and advice, plus fundraising ideas and good practice hints and tips to ensure our events are legal and safe. In addition, we have a valuable resource at our fingertips at www.pta.org.uk

 

Links with local businesses

 

We have, over time, developed strong links with the local community and are always well supported by both residents and businesses, for which we are very grateful.  Many of our local businesses are very generous, providing donations for raffle prizes, sponsorship etc.  We always publicise their contribution and encourage parents to support businesses who support us.

 

Role of the Committee

 

The BSFA committee consists of three main Officers: Chair (Vice-Chair), Treasurer and Secretary.  We also have lots of ordinary committee members to make up the full committee. 

 

The friendly committee meet on a monthly basis, with smaller working groups meeting, as necessary, when we are planning larger events.

 

Our Annual General Meeting is held in September and also provides an ideal opportunity for all parents to come along and hear more about the work of the BSFA; the events we have run, the funds we have raised and how the money has been spent.  It is also the occasion when we elect our new committee members.

 

How we raise money

 

Like most PTAs, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run.  Some of our most popular events are: 

School Fairs, Children's Parties / Discos, Quiz Nights, Bounceathon.....to name but a few. 

We also arrange fund raising projects in conjunction with the children e.g. 'Young Apprentice' fund raising competitions at the Christmas and Summer Fairs and we use children’s artwork to create unique items such as Christmas Cards, Key Rings and Mother's Day Mugs. 

 

So, as you see, there is always something going on.  We always try and respond to the children’s requests; it is great to see them having fun at the events, or enjoying using a piece of new equipment that BSFA has donated.
